Director of Operations
GRX Holdings, LLC, a privately held company based in West Des Moines owning 50 pharmacy locations. Our purpose is to provide consistent, quality personal service, be genuinely concerned for our patient’s health, provide our patients with needed health information and always be readily available to our patients.
We are looking for an efficient, flexible, and highly motivated Registered Pharmacist to join our team as a Director of Operations, located in the state of Iowa. This position will cover Medicap Pharmacy stores throughout the state.
PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Director of Operations is a licensed pharmacist leader responsible for assessing, analyzing, and improving patient outcomes, operational efficiencies, regulatory compliance, and overall profitability for multiple pharmacy locations. Coach, train, and clearly articulate all aspects of pharmacy operations to pharmacy managers and cultivate a culture of accountability and high-performance standards across all of our locations. Provide licensed pharmacist coverage and staffing support to maintain continuity of patient care, and partner with the Vice President of Operations and President on compliance, regulatory, and legal matters. Identify and develop pharmacist and technician talent to build a strong leadership pipeline and support succession planning for key pharmacy roles. Collaborate with pharmacy staff, management, District Directors of Operations, and the accounting team to drive operational excellence, implement best practices, and drive success for our Company key initiatives including but not limited to growing our vitamins and nutrient supplement lines, growing our telehealth program, and growing the pharmacy leadership pipeline with pharmacists and technicians. This role requires an active pharmacist license, strong analytical skills, leadership abilities, and a deep understanding of pharmacy operations and regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Drive execution and hold pharmacy managers accountable to clearly defined operational goals, objectives, and performance metrics.
- Provide pharmacist coverage at locations during staffing shortages, vacancies, and leaves of absence, serving as pharmacist on duty or pharmacist-in-charge as needed to ensure continuity of patient care.
- Coordinate float pharmacist scheduling and work with pharmacy managers to proactively plan coverage and minimize service disruptions.
- Assess current pharmacy operations, identify areas for improvement, and develop strategies to enhance efficiency, productivity, and patient safety.
- Analyze workflow patterns, resource allocation, and technology utilization to identify bottlenecks and areas of optimization.
- Lead and facilitate process improvement initiatives, utilizing methodologies such as Lean Six Sigma, Kaizen, or other relevant frameworks.
- Conduct data analysis and utilize analytical tools to measure and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to pharmacy operations.
- Develop and implement standardized operating procedures (SOPs), guidelines, and protocols to ensure consistent and efficient workflows.
- Partner with the Vice President of Operations and President on compliance, regulatory, and legal matters, including board of pharmacy inspections, DEA requirements, payer and CMS audits, licensure, and responses to regulatory agencies.
- Monitor compliance with regulatory requirements, accrediting bodies, and best practices related to pharmacy operations, including board of pharmacy, DEA, CMS, HIPAA, and Medicare accreditation standards.
- Ensure accurate billing in compliance with insurance plan, CMS, and board of pharmacy requirements while optimizing profitability.
- Ensure pharmacists are implementing clinical services including but not limited to immunizations, medication therapy management (MTM), and diabetic shoe fitting.
- Identify, develop, and mentor high-potential pharmacists and technicians for leadership roles, and maintain succession plans for pharmacy manager and other key positions.
- Train and educate pharmacy staff on new processes, procedures, and best practices to drive operational excellence.
- Serve as a preceptor for pharmacy rotation students and interns.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, regulations, and advancements in pharmacy operations, and recommend innovative solutions and technologies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including District Directors of Operations, to integrate pharmacy operations with other departments and systems, ensuring seamless coordination and communication.
- Lead and participate in quality improvement initiatives, including root cause analysis, error reduction, and continuous improvement projects.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and recommendations for senior management regarding operational performance and improvement initiatives.
- Maintain active state pharmacist license(s) and required certifications, including immunization and CPR.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Shall have direct supervision over Pharmacy Managers, float pharmacists, and pharmacy rotation students/interns.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Licensed Pharmacist (RPh) with an active, unrestricted license in good standing in the state(s) of operation, and a Pharm.D. or B.S. in Pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy. 5 years of experience in pharmacy operations leadership roles with a focus on process improvement, regulatory compliance, and talent development. Current immunization certification and CPR required.
LANGUAGE ABILITY
Ability to communicate appropriately in a business like and professional manner with various audiences including other healthcare professionals, pharmacy managers, the various departments at GRX Holdings, LLC, and community members through publication and speech. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret regulatory, financial, and legal documents, and to respond to inquiries from regulatory agencies.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
COGNITIVE DEMANDS
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
